Nigeria- Senate mourns late Borno deputy governor

A delegation from the Kano State has paid its tribute to the Deputy Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Zannah Umar Mustapha, who died last Saturday.

Kano colleague, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, led the delegation to Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State for a condolence visit to Governor Kashim Shettima and entire people of the state following the sudden death.

Speaking during the visit, Abubakar said they were in Maiduguri to condole the government and the people over the death of the deputy governor.

Mustapha died after a heart attack.

“We are here for a condolence visit to the government and the people of the state over the death of the deputy governor on behalf of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje who is unavoidably absent,” said Abubakar.

“May Allah forgive his soul and grant him Aljannah Firdausi,” Abubakar added.

He noted that the late deputy governor had been his ally for some time.

“We spoke three times with him while he was in Yola and all these centered on loyalty to his principal. He tutored me on how to succeed as a loyal deputy governor throughout our relationship,” he added

Meanwhile, Senator Danjuma Goje, the former governor of Gombe State led a delegation from the National Assembly for a condolence visit.

“We are here as a delegation from the National Assembly to represent the Senate President and the Speaker of the House to condole the state over the death of this great patriot not just of Borno but Nigeria as a whole,” Goje said

He described the deceased as a dedicated and very loyal deputy to his boss and also pray to Allah to grant him Aljannah Firdausi.

“He had shown total commitment towards ending the Boko Haram insurgency and rehabilitation of the North East,” Goje added.

Shettima pledged the state government stood by the family of his late deputy governor.

He said the sudden death of his deputy had created enormous vacuum in the state which will be difficult to fill.
