Gov Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has insisted that the national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will hold as planned in Port Harcourt despite the recent ruling of a court which sacked the party’s caretaker committee, reports Thisday.
Prior to the court ruling, the Ahmed Makarfi led PDP had fixed the national convention for August 17 in Port Harcourt.
Wike, said the convention would hold as planned because the court was yet to hear the suit filed by ousted Ali Modu Sheriff challenging the proposed convention.
Addressing the South-south Executive Committee of the PDP at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Monday, Gov Wike said Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court Abuja could not have sacked the Ahmed Makarfi led Caretaker Committee because he cannot sit on appeal on the judgment of a court of coördinate jurisdiction.
The governor according to the Nation added that there was an application to allow Markafi to be joined in the suit, stressing that hearing was adjoined till August 15.
He also said the leaders of the PDP in the South would meet on Thursday to find positions, ahead of the national convention.
Wike promised that the PDP would emerge stronger from the challenges, claiming that Nigerians were waiting for the party to give leadership.
