The embattled Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Momoh Jimoh has resigned, reports.
He resigned on Tuesday on the floor of the House.
Jimoh said his decision to step down was done in the best interest of the state.
The Kogi State House of Assembly has been enmeshed in crisis since February, resulting in the emergence of two factions of the Assembly.
Five lawmakers in a 20-member House had purportedly removed Jimoh and elected Umar Imam as the new Speaker of the House.
The decision of the five lawmakers to sack Jimoh according to News 24 was, however, upturned by a Federal High court in Abuja.
In a judgment delivered by Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, the court said the process that led to their purported impeachment on February 16, 2016, was unconstitutional and illegal.
But, Jimoh on Tuesday said he was stepping down to allow peace reign.
In his place, Imam takes over as Speaker of the State House of Assembly.
