Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi says that if professor Makau Mutua is named Chief Justice, he might not swear in President Uhuru Kenyatta after the 2017 General Elections.
According to The Star, Mutua has applied for the top job in the judiciary and is one of the front-runners to replace Willy Mutunga.
But according to Ngunyi, the professor is heavily anti- Jubilee Coalition and might refuse to swear in the President if he wins the 2017 general elections.
” “If made CJ, Mutua Wa Makau could ‘refuse’ to swear Uhuru as President in 2017. He has told us that he does not recognise Uhuru as President so he is not neutral. And his Afro-Pessimism is acidic. We don’t need another activist for CJ,” he said on his Twitter feed.
The Star further reports that Mutua is among the eight applicants who have applied to succeed Mutunga as president of the Supreme Court.
Former speaker Kenneth Marende, Supreme Court Judge Dr Smokin Wanjala, Court of Appeal Judges David Maranga and Alnashir Vishram are some of the applicants.
High Court judges Msagah Mbogholi and Judge Richard Mwongo have also presented their bids for the top post in the judiciary.
