The Zimbabwe Liberators Platform (ZLP) has accused President Robert Mugabe of deserting, and eroding the country’s liberation war values, reportsNewsDay.
According to ZLP secretary general Wilson Nharingo, Mugabe had abused and used the freedom fighters for his own benefit.
Nharingo claimed Mugabe had dumped them to save his political interests and, in the process, run down the country’s economy.
This came as the battle lines within the ruling Zanu-PF party were drawn, ahead of a crunch indaba on Thursday.
Mugabe, 92, recently told the country’s former freedom fighters to stop dictating to him how he should run the ruling Zanu-PF party.
The nonagenarian claimed that the war veterans were merely an association of Zanu-PF, adding that associations to the party could not dictate how he ran the party.
Local media reports claimed that Mugabe was under fire from the former freedom fighters, who were demanding that he took action against a seemingly “rogue faction” of the ruling party, known as Generation 40 (G40).
The G40 was reportedly bent on blocking Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwafrom taking over from Mugabe when he finally left office.
The G40 was believed to be aligned to First Lady Grace Mugabe, while the war veterans were believed to be aligned to Mnangagwa.
Nharingo said the country was under siege from Zanu-PF forces of “destruction”, forces.
