Liberia’s new president, Joseph Boakai, had to be escorted from the podium after pausing twice during his inauguration speech.
He had already been speaking for almost 30 minutes when it became apparent that he was struggling to speak, according to the BBC.
Boakai, who was accompanied by his advisers and members of the executive protection service, was led away from the event at the Capitol Building, which serves as the legislative seat.
The ceremony has been adjourned prematurely.
The 79-year-old was sworn in as Liberia’s oldest president amid rumours about his poor health.
