KNUT Opposes The Scraping of 8-4-4

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has opposed the scraping of the 8-4-4 system over what it terms as inadequate consultations over the matter.

KNUT secretary general, Wilson Sossion said there is no better system that can replace 8-4-4 and that the system needs strengthening instead of scraping it.

Speaking Sunday when he attended a church service at the Bishop Arthur PCEA in Nakuru town, Sossion said shortage of teachers and underpaid teachers are the problems killing the Kenyan education sector.

“As teachers, our stand remains the same and we are not supporting the scraping of 8-4-4 because we know the system is not the problem pitting our education sector,” said Sossion.

“Even if they change the system and fail to address the real problems, things will remain the same. Let them employ more teachers and motivate them and they will see a big change,” he said.

Sossion added that things will even be worse if the government scraps the 8-4-4 system saying that it will take years before the country adapts to the new system.
