Kenyans over the weekend ganged up against President Uhuru Kenyatta after he congratulated President Yoweri Museveni on his victory in the disputed election held last week.
Uhuru, in his congratulatory message to Museveni said: “I am very pleased to congratulate His Excellency President Yoweri Museveni on his re-election as President of the Republic of Uganda. The people of Uganda have spoken, and they have spoken very clearly. We respect their choice of President Museveni.”
Kenyans dismissed the President for supporting a ‘dictator’ who does not respect democracy, saying that Museveni elected himself and that his victory was a fraud.
One posted: “If you really respect the people of Uganda then you should clearly know they are grieving. Otherwise you’re playing hypocrisy here. How come no Kenyan president has ruled for 35 years including your Father?”
The President went on to wish Museveni success, assuring him of his friendship and support “as well as that of their brothers and sisters in Kenya.”
However, Kenyans disassociated themselves from the message, claiming that the President was speaking for himself and not Kenyans.
“When you say friendship of the Kenyan people, I hope you are talking about Ngina, Margaret, Jomo and Moses Kuria..coz no sound Kenyan is a friend of that kind of dictatorship sir,” said Bosman Ambida Eglasias in response the President’s message which was posted on his official Facebook page.
Another Kenyan, Wanyama Evan said: “May the whole world understand that this is a personal statement from uhuru and does not in any way represent the view of Kenyans. No sane mind can talk positive about an open dishonest election marred with irregularities and intimidation of opponents like Uganda’s.”
Kapia Frankline Abdallah posted: “I regret on behalf of people of Kenya. The views Kenyatta has expressed here are personal and do not reflect wishes of Kenyans. We stand with our Brothers in Uganda these trying moments of their democracy when election is rigged and people intimidated. But for Uhuru it’s a chance to sell his Milk Brookside and sugar packaged in M7 bags.”
On Twitter, aggrieved Kenyans used the hashtag #UhuruIsNotKenya to vent their anger.
