Opposition coalition CORD cancelled Monday’s protests against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
However, the coalition gave the government a three-day ultimatum to resolve the stalemate facing the electoral body failure to which they vowed to resume with protests on Thursday.
Speaking in Gigiri Sunday, Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama who is a member of CORD said they had resorted to give the government time to respond to their demands regarding the IEBC crisis following talks with the clergy, diplomats and business community.
According to Standard, CORD gave Jubilee until Wednesday night to come up with an amicable solution to the issue.
The opposition has been calling for the ouster of IEBC commissioners, saying they are not able to conduct a credible election.
Daily Nation reports that the business community, diplomats and the clergy support these sentiments by the opposition.
Last week, the President agreed to hold talks in a bid to resolve the stalemate, but the two sides are yet to come to agree on how the talks should be conducted.
The President has maintained that talks should happen within the Constitution, but nominated an 11-member team to represent Jubilee in the dialogue.
CORD, which had constituted a 5-member team to take part in the talks has however insisted that the joint select team should comprise a maximum of 14 members and that talks should take place outside Parliament.
