Kenya: Royal Media Services Support Jacque Maribe’s Bail Application

The Royal Media Services has today expressed confidence that Citizen TV journalist Jacque Maribe would not jump bail if released.

Through a statement by the group’s Managing Director Wachira Waruru, the media house urged the court to release Maribe on bail.

Waruru explained that she has worked at Citizen for six-years thus vouching for her character and recommending her admission to bail.

“Having engaged her for the last six years and assessing her performance, we hereby vouch for her character and recommend for her admission to bail… Due to her exceptional performance, she has been appointed to the position of Friday’s prime-time news anchor on the station…

“She joined the company as a reporter on Citizen Television and was later promoted to the position of senior reporter on the same station… Arising from the promotion, she was assigned huge national and international events which she undertook successfully… Maribe has had a clean record while in the employment of the company,” read the statement in part.

Yesterday, Maribe’s lawyers sought bail, a move objected by State Prosecutor Catherine Mwaniki who said Maribe’s role in media presented the likelihood of witness intimidation.

Maribe is in custody with her fiancé Joseph ‘Jowie’ Irungu over the murder of Monica Kimani.

Kimani was found dead with her throat slit at Lamuria Gardens Apartment, Kilimani. They denied the charges.

The court will rule on her bail application next week, Tuesday.
