Guinea’s government says it has signed an agreement with the two largest teacher unions, ending strikes that saw schools closed for weeks.
At least five people were killed on Monday after police reacted to student protests demanding an agreement.
The violence wounded 30 others, and police arrested 12.
The details of the agreement, signed late on Monday, were not available, though the government said teachers would have to wait until September for salary amendments.
Souleymane Sy Savane, secretary-general for one union, says schools will re-open Wednesday as negotiations continue.
Strikes began in early February to demand a pay raise for teachers and payments and better training for contracted teachers.
