British Vogue Appoints Ghanaian Edward Enninful As Its First Male Editor

After months of media speculation, British Vogue has this morning announced its new Editor.

Edward Enninful OBE, the British fashion stylist born in Ghana and current style director at W magazine, will replace outgoing editor Alexandra Shulman, effective 1st August 2017.

Enninful, who immigrated from Africa to London as a child, has a rich fashion CV, having been appointed Fashion Director at British title i-D in 1991 (at the age of just 19) and working extensively with both American and Italian Vogues throughout the 2000s.

In an internal announcement issued to Condé Nast employees this morning, Jonathan Newhouse, Chairman and Chief Executive of Condé Nast International, described Enninful as “an influential figure in the communities of fashion, Hollywood and music which shape the cultural zeitgeist” and cited his work under the late Italian Vogue editor Franca Sozzani as having “attained landmark status in recent cultural history.”
