President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered investigation of present and past Nigerian officials named in the Panama Papers scandal, reports Premium Times.
Prominent among those named him the scandal are embattled Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his predecessor, David Mark.
At least 110 Nigerians and companies were listed as operating offshore shell companies in tax havens.
Buhari has directed the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to begin investigation into the scandal.
The chairman of CCB, Sam Saba, confirmed the directive.
Saba said the Presidency has forwarded names of some persons mentioned in the Panama Papers, to the agency for investigation.
Saba said the CCB, after studying the papers, has questions for some public officers in the country.
He would not, however, show the names of the affected public officers.
News 24 reported that at least four assets belonging to the Saraki family, tucked away in secret offshore territories were uncovered in the Panama Papers scandal .
It was discovered that the Senate President failed to declare them to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) as required by Nigerian laws.
Mark on the other hand has links with eight offshore companies in British Virgin Island as shown in the leaked documents.
Also named in the scandal were former Delta State Governor James Ibori, Saraki’s brother Laolu, his associate Obi Asika and Olufela Ibidapo.
