Ex-Ghana president Jerry John Rawlings, as well as Vice-President of the Republic, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia have penned separate heartfelt messages to the Muslim community, urging them to remember the nation in prayers as they commemorate the Ramadan festivities.
Muslims around the world are celebrating the Eid-ul-Fitr to mark a successful end to Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.

The annual celebration is usually an occasion meant for bonding, sharing and caring.

Former president Jerry John Rawlings, in a joint statement with his wife, Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings, has entreated the Muslim community to remember Ghana in their prayers as they celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.
He noted that “the month of Ramadan has a cleansing effect on whole communities,” adding that Muslims have a role to play if peace is to prevail in Ghana.
Portions of the statement read: “We pray that as you break the fast you continue to seek Allah’s guidance and blessings not only for our families, friends and communities but for the good of Ghana so we can forge ahead as a people in peace and tranquillity.”
In a separate message, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia congratulated all Muslims for a successful fasting, while urging them to “pray for peace, unity and prosperity”.
According to the Vice President, “this is indeed a great occasion to show gratitude to the Almighty Allah for taking us through a very successful period of fasting and to show kindness to our fellow human beings.”
The statement further adds that: “Let us also pray for our beloved country Ghana; let us pray for peace, unity and prosperity. Let us rededicate ourselves to the service of the Almighty, to the service of humanity and to the service of our nation, Ghana. May the Almighty Allah be our guide and guard in everything we do.”
