Drugs, Bloodstained Knives Nabbed From UoN Hostels

A raid on University of Nairobi’s Hall 9 over the weekend led to the recovery of drugs and bloodstained knives believed to have been used in the recent violence following the disputed SONU election.

During the raid that was conducted by officers from the Special Crimes Prevention Unit, Flying Squad and the Anti-Narcotics Unit, police found 25kg of bhang, nine machetes, police sweaters, boots, balaclavas, watchmen’s uniforms, money-making machine and fake notes.

According to The Star, the operation was in response to claims by the National Authority for Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) chair, John Mututho that there existed a drug cartel in the University.

Mututho had accused the University administration and senior police officers of protecting the cartel that he claimed operated from the raided hall 9.

However, Citizen Digital reported that the Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet rubbished the claims and even ordered Mututho to record statements for ‘tarnishing the name of the police.”
