A brave South African woman with albinism has shared her inspirational story of how she’s overcoming online bullying to pursue a modeling career. Nontobeko Mbuyazi, 20, has pale skin as a result of the condition. Some cyber trolls have even called her a “ghost” and mocked her for aspiring to be a model. However, this has not fazed her at all and she regularly conducts photoshoots with various modeling agencies.

The criminology student from Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, possesses inspiring confidence and hopes her story will motivate other albinos to believe in themselves. In an interview, Mbuyazi said: “I am an albino and despite my differences, I have found the confidence to start modeling.

She added that when trolls called her names and asked where her eyebrows were, it had the opposite effect—she became even more emboldened instead of being discouraged.
She said the bullies hide behind their online facades, adding that she has never experienced bullying in real life.

Mbuyazi is certain that her experience has made her a better person. She also feels more beautiful and proud in her own skin. She is keen to spread awareness that albinism is not a disease but only a skin condition.

Mbuyazi acknowledged that not all people are bullies, adding that she has actually received more compliments, both in real life and online, than bullying. Although she has poor vision and has to take precautions such as staying away from the sun, she is proud to be an albino. She encourages other albinos to be too.
