A Nyeri politician has urged bodaboda operators to demand some fee for advertisements carried on their reflector jackets.
Duncan Maina Mathenge said some companies and political aspirants are exploiting the bodaboda operators.
He said the corporate companies should not only give the operators free jackets but also add some fee because of publicizing their brands.
“Most reflector jackets worn by bodaboda operators bear some writings to advertise a certain product or service. Others are publicizing political aspirants. This should not be a free service but chargeable,” said Mathenge who is aspiring Nyeri Town MP.
He stated that the same companies pays government for billboards in order to be allowed to advertise.
“Adverts placed on the media are very expensive. This is exploitation of hardworking people who are known to intermingle and meet hundreds of people in many areas,” Mathenge added.
He made the remarks during a meeting with bodaoda operators at Kamukunji grounds in Nyeri town.
He said he would seek an insurance company that would advertise its service with Nyeri bodaboda operators for free in exchange of free insurance medical cover
