It is indeed a sad time in Hollywood as the industry has once again lost one of its brilliant minds to the cold hands of death. The American producer and co-creator of Scooby-Doo, Ken Spears, passed away at the age of 82 after battling complications from Lewy body dementia, BBC News reports.
The same media reported that the producer’s death was confirmed by his son, Kevin, during a chat with Hollywood Reporter.
Also confirming his death, Warner Bros. president, Sam Register, in a statement extended condolences to his family. “Warner Bros. Animation is saddened to learn of the passing of Ken Spears and we send our warmest thoughts to his loved ones. He was a true innovator in the industry whose gifts of humor and storytelling continue to delight audiences.”
A post was also dedicated to Spears on the official Scooby-Doo page on Instagram. The caption read: “Thank you, Ken Spears, for co-creating a classic animated series that continues to impact generations.”
