South African Actor, Zola Hashatsi Tests Positive For COVID-19 Twice

Actor and TV presenter Zola Hashatsi was diagnosed with Covid-19 twice in 2019 – first in July, and again in December.

Speaking to Unathi on Kaya FM’s Midday-Joy With Unathi, Zola said: “I am happy to be alive.”

About his recovery, Zola said that he has learnt to “appreciate everything”.

According to Zola, his symptoms in December were different from those he experienced the first time he was diagnosed with the virus. “Honestly, it’s painful,” he said about his most recent diagnosis, adding: “I felt things I’ve never felt.”

“I thought it was something I ate. I had cramps. The symptoms were different. I couldn’t eat for four days,” he said. In the eight-minute interview, Zola said that he also experienced vomiting, eye discolouration, and lost the ability to walk.

“I died, and I fought with God,” he says, explaining how he was fighting for his life. “I had an out of body experience. I’m watching myself from a bird’s-eye view,” he said.

Zola explained that he has a new-found understanding of the word “joy,” saying: “Joy means being able to open one’s eyes and live to see another day.”
