the Former Kenyan gospel musician KimDanny has stated why he left from doing gospel music to doing secular songs.
The singer recently surprised fans with Dole, a song featuring ladies in bikini, drawing stinging criticism from a section of social media users.
Speaking exclusively in an interview, the singer explained what informed his decision, saying that clergymen are convinced he is lost and needs prayers.
“There are so many people who have called me to pray for me…when others call they want us to pray first over the phone. Some are big people in society including pastors. I respect their views and I take time to explain to them what informed my decision,” says Danny.
The Tulia Mungu Yupo hitmaker explains that part of his decision was informed by the fact that the Kenyan music industry is no longer defined by music genre, but by the quality of music, one does.
“I want my fans to judge me from the work that I will be doing. I have already recorded a full album and every month I will be having a project that I will be pushing through,” he said.
Hateful gospel world
According to KimDanny, the infighting and hate among gospel musicians also played a role in him going secular.
“I was among the pioneers of urban gospel music. At the time the industry was good and we secured many shows.
“Currently, Kenyan gospel industry is suffocated by hatred and bad politics. If the industry was genuine and serving the right purpose, some elements would not even be in the game. There is a lot of negative energy in the industry,” he said.
He gave a thumbs up to local DJs who he says promote Kenyan music and hinted that in a few months time, he would be releasing collaboes with Tanzanian and Nigeria singers.
Other songs he has done include Nimeshinda, Tulia, Nina Imani and Hananga Makosa among others.
