A lab technician in Nairobi’s Jericho area has been accused of peddling medical services at Lumumba Health Centre from where he sends patients to a private clinic.
It is alleged that the lab technician has hired women who hunt for patients seeking free services for diversion to the private clinic on commission basis.
Rosepeggy Agisa, an area Community Health Volunteer told The Nairobian “It is unprofessional to do so, it’s is like taking advantage of your position. In this case, the technician has been using his position to direct patients to his clinic”.
The said clinic has a lab and a chemist but it’s fronted as photocopying place.
“We reported the matter to the area Chief on May 17 because the clinic owners have been claiming they are connected to members of dentist and practitioners’ board.
The matter has been also reported to the officer-in-charge Makadara Health Centre but no action has been taken,” laments Rosepeggy.
Contacted by The Nairobian, lab technician Simon Kipruto distanced himself from the allegations saying: “I owned a cereals shops sometimes back, but I was kicked out because I couldn’t raise the rent. I also had photocopier machine there, but the clinic and chemist are not mine,” explained Kipruto.
Area Chief Fred Mbaka said “I summoned the technician and warned him, but I’m not aware this is still going on, I will follow up and find a solution.”
