The unveiling of the nominees for the Groove Awards 2017 at the Manu Chandaria Auditorium of the University of Nairobi was a shocker for many who expected gospel bigwigs to be nominated in the various categories of the awards.
Artists like L-Jay Maasai who won Male Artist of the Year at the Groove Awards 2016, Barua Star, Bahati, Fanya hit maker, Willy Paul and many others missed out on this year’s nominations.
Willy Paul who attended the event in the company of DJ Mo, Hopekid anxd DK Kwenye Beat, walked out minutes before the nominations ceremony ended with reports that he was visibly angry for not being nominated.
This year’s nominees include Daddy Owen, Eko Dydda, Guardian Angel, Alice Kimanzi, Evelyn Wanjiru, Mercy Masika, Kelele Takatifu and Kambua. Size 8 the ‘Pale Pale’ singer was the artist with the highest nomination for the night.
Nominated artists will perform during the Groove Tours that will begin on 14th May and will take place in towns such as Machakos, Eldoret and Karatina.
