South Africa: Nelson Mandela Children Hospital To Admit 1st Patient In June -Sibongile Mkhabela

The Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital in Johannesburg will admit its first patient in June.
“You might ask why the delay. It’s all about patient safety. We can’t bring a child in, unless and until we are satisfied that the service which is – not the building – the doctors, the nurses and everything is in place for the child. So, around April, we will start testing the system,” said the hospital’s CEO Sibongile Mkhabela.
The paediatric health facility has partnered with the Canadian paediatic movement, Sick Kids, to train staff and share clinical and research expertise.

The partnership includes a contribution of R25 million.

The Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital was launched in December 2016.

The R1.4 billion hospital will cater for specialised operations and procedures for children.
