ODM leader Raila Odinga is being investigated for incitement over remarks he made last month during a political rally in Narok County.

During the rally, the Opposition leader was captured saying, “I am calling on all Kenyans from Mandera,Isiolo, Samburu, Kajiado and elsewhere in Kenya to arm themselves so that we go to Nairobi and force Hassan’s team out of office.”

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission Chairman (NCIC), Mr Francis Kaparo on Monday divulged that Odinga would be investigated for the remarks which implied that Kenyans should arm themselves and head to Nairobi to flush out the IEBC commissioners.

Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago will also be probed after he opposed the appointment of Professor Laban Ayiro to take over as the acting Moi University Vice Chancellor.

“Whether Raila has a case to answer or not, each will carry his cross. Both of them are under investigation and once we have enough evidence we will take the necessary action,” Kaparo stated.

The NCIC chairman warned that stern action would be taken if the two are found guilty of the offences and that his team will not be intimidated by their positions.

Odinga’s lawyer, Mr Paul Mwangi, disclosed that he was not aware that the NCIC had opened investigations against the former Prime Minister.

“We consider this is a politically-motivated report and was uttered on a political platform,” Mr Mwangi affirmed.

The NCIC has maintained that it will carry out its duties and prosecute politicians found culpable of inciting Kenyans ahead of the 2017 elections.

Previously, in his defence, Odinga explained that by telling the Maasais to arm themselves, the weapons were not going to be used for violence but would be carried as symbols.

“We are not going to use them. The Maasais use rungus and spears as symbols. They are not for offensive they are what we call ceremonial spear and warring spear,”Odinga explained.
