ODM leader Raila Odinga and Wiper Party leaderKalonzo Musyoka on Sunday expressed differing views on a wide range of issues regarding the CORD flag bearer.
In an interview aired on Citizen TV, Odinga and Kalonzo gave contrasting opinions with regard to the time frame within which the CORD flagbearer would be picked.
While Kalonzo insisted that the candidate should be picked by December, Odinga disclosed that they would decide on who will lead the coalition in February or March 2016.
“There is still sufficient time for us to sit down and agree on the candidate… February or March next year for me is a good time,” Raila noted.
The former Vice President disclosed that the Opposition had not even agreed on which criteria they would use to pick the flagbearer.
According to the former Prime Minister, however, CORD should consider the popularity of the parties, since ODM has more legislators in parliament as opposed to Wiper and FORD-Kenya.
On the other hand, Kalonzo insisted that they had an agreement with the Odinga which he should consider. According to Kalonzo, the reason why the Orange Party boasted a lot of MPs in Parliament was because Raila was the forerunner in 2013.
While Kalonzo and FORD-Kenya leader Moses Wetangula have insisted that the flagbearer should be picked among the three principals, Raila surprised many with his new suggestion.
He hinted at working with Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi, Baringo Senator Gideon Moi and Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto whom they could also consider as serious candidates.
“The issue could not only be among the three principals, those who come will also be part of us and will be talking,” Raila disclosed.
Kalonzo disagreed with the opinion: ” I would seriously disagree with that statement… this is the politics of betrayal.”
It now remains to be seen what impact the latest sentiments by Odinga and Kalonzo will have on affairs of the CORD coalition.
