A top opposition leader was on Saturday dressed down in public by President Uhuru Kenyatta over land issues.
Uhuru told Msambweni MP, Suleiman Dori to stop lecturing him, adding that leaders who have issues in their areas of jurisdiction are free to visit his office and look for a solution instead of lecturing him.
Kenyatta who was speaking at Jomo Kenyatta primary school after opening various development project including Mkanda dam water project in LungaLunga and Msambweni hospital radiology unit, renal and ICU facility said leaders need to have respect.
“No need to stand in front of microphone and start lecturing the President. You should come to my office we dialogue and come up with a solution instead of lecturing us. Some of us cannot be lectured because we give citizens solutions to their problems,” said the President.
He said that the controversial Waitiki land problem in Likoni was solved after area MP, Masoud Mwahima met him and deliberated on the issues affecting his constituents.
Uhuru said that leaders were elected to dialogue and bring solution.
“We were not elected to bring our issues in public. But the other coalition (CORD) is used to that habit of lecturing other people but they should stop it,” he noted.
The President told the MP that citizens will not benefit from empty promises and rhetoric from their leaders, but their hard work.
He was reacting to the MPs’ comments that the President should intervene and help solve land issues in Vumbu, Gasi, Magaoni and Vidziyani as well as expand the Ukunda airstrip.
“Land is a big problem in Msambweni and we are sure if you intervene it can be solved,” said Dori.
Dori assured the President that once the land issues are solved in the area, residents will automatically shift allegiance and support Jubilee in 2017.
But his statement seemed to have angered the President prompting the angry response.
Deputy President William Ruto, Governor Salim Mvurya, deputy Governor Fatuma Achani, MPs Zainab Chizuga, Mustafa Iddi, Gideon Mung’aro, Khatib Mwashetani, CS water Eugine Wamalwa, CS land Jacob Kaimenyi were among other leaders present during the public baraza.
