Residents of Isiolo County have expressed fear following reports that more than 30 youths have joined Somalia-based terror group, Al Shabaab.

The youths are said to have already crossed the border to Somalia to work with the terrorism group.

County Commissioner George Natembeya said 19 young people are already in Somalia while whereabouts of 14 others is unknown.

He said the government is making efforts to track the youths who are aged between 19 and 25 years.

He noted that those missing are strongly believed to have already joined the terror group.

Natembeya confirmed that some of the refugees from Daadab camp in Garissa who want to escape repatriation have moved into Isiolo to recruit young men into Al-Shabaab.

Area Governor Godana Doyo asked the County security team to offer protection to members of the public willing to offer information that could be helpful in dealing with the menace.

Some residents including Sheikhs and Imams had complained of police arrogance when they opted to report such cases.

He added that suspicious people pretending to be herders have invaded the County and were out to radicalise youth.
