UGANDA POLICE

Police in Uganda has said that it has killed two thugs who have targeted Kenyan traders.

The two thugs killed ,with others still at large have been reportedly putting in place illegal road blocks at which they rob mostly Kenyan businessmen.

Although the incidents of robbery have taken place in eastern Uganda district of Iganga, about 60km from the border, police suspects that the robbers have collaborated with fellow thugs at the Kenya-Uganda boarder entry point who would call and tell them about the movements of the Kenyan traders.

In the last two months, at least 14 Kenyan businessmen have been robbed at illegal roadblocks mounted by the thugs wearing  army uniform.

Iganga distrct police commander, Ndita Nasibu has identified the killed robbers as Bosco Kyalo and Julius Ceaser Byaruhanga.

He said, “By the time they were  killed by policemen, the two thugs had mounted a roadblock at Nabusre village. They were in army uniform while holding a gun.” said Nasibu.

He said they believe that the two robbers staged a similar roadblock a few days ago at Busesa trading centre and robbed Kenyan businessmen unspecified amounts of money.

He said that after getting complaints from several Kenyan businessmen, they started hunting for the thugs until when they put them out of action yesterday.

One of the Kenyans robbed at one of the illegal roadblocks, Robert Oundo said that he was taking money to his colleagues who send him fish on credit from Masese landing site on Lake Victoria near Jinja town, when he got involved in the robbery incident.
