Nigeria: FG Fails To Arraign Senate President Saraki And His Deputy Ekweremadu

The federal government on Tuesday failed to arraign Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu on criminal conspiracy and forgery of the Senate Standing Rules in 2015, reports Punch.

The arraignment was stalled following the inability of court officials to serve the two presiding officers of Senate  with the charges.

The two principal officers were to appear before a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja over alleged criminal conspiracy and forgery of the Senate Standing Rules that brought them to office in 2015, reports News 24.

Others charged along Saraki and Ekweremadu are the former Clerk of the National Assembly, Salisu Abubakar Maikasuwa and his deputy, Benedict Efeturi. Maikasuwa was the Clerk of the National Assembly (CNA) when the alleged offence was committed.

The forgery case is before Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Jabi Division of the FCT High Court.

The accused could not be served  because the Senate was not in session when the court bailiff went the National Assembly to serve them.

No new date is fixed ‎for the arraignment until service is effected on the defendants.
