Ababu Namwamba is the latest name to be linked to Deputy President William Ruto’s bid to become President in 2022.
The Budalang’i MP is keen on making an impression in national elections in 2022 and will build his contacts within the Luhya community to ensure he has one vote that will catapult him to the national limelight.
Ababu is working hard behind the scenes to ensure that the often fragmented Luhya vote is one and the same ahead of the upcoming polls.
And for 2022, he is hoping to use it as a bargaining tool to woo potential suitors including DP William Ruto who is said to be considering making him his running mate.
” The DP admires Ababu who was like him in the past. He is young and ambitious and at the moment he is staying away from all the CORD shenanigans,” a Jubilee source told News24.
Ruto has been keen on getting in on the Luhya wave, having hosted leaders from the region several times at his Sugoi home.
With debate over whether he will get the vast Kikuyu vote during the polls already underway, he is focusing elsewhere.
” Ruto is keen on the Luhya vote as he knows that it is the biggest in Kenya in terms of numbers and having it on his side will help him in case the Kikuyu vote goes away, the source added.
With President Uhuru Kenyatta exiting the scene after 2017, talk has already begun on who will take the Kikuyu vote come 2022, with many feeling the DP will and others not quite so.
