Kenya’s main opposition group is seeking to ally with other political parties and agree on a single candidate to challenge President Uhuru Kenyatta in August 2017 elections, the Star reported.

Coalition for Reforms and Democracy leader Raila Odinga is behind the plans, which involve the Amani National Congress, Kenya African National Union and the United Democratic Party, the Nairobi-based newspaper said Monday, citing unidentified senior officials from the groups.

Kenyatta, who teamed up with one-time rival Deputy President William Ruto to win power in 2013 under the banner of the Jubilee Alliance, will seek a second term in next year’s vote. Odinga, who poses the biggest challenge to Kenyatta, claims he was robbed of victory in 2007 and 2013 elections because of alleged rigging.
