All the musicians who supported President Yoweri Museveni in the just concluded elections are getting it rough after the supporters of opposition leader Kizza Besigye resolved to boycott their concerts.
Over 10 popular musicians in Uganda including Jose Chameleon, Juliana Kanyomozi, Lyn Namubiru, Baby Cool, Aruna Mubiru, Mos Weasel and others ganged up to support Museveni.
They collectively composed a song entitled ”Tubonga nawe” which became very popular among ruling party members and they sang it at the beginning of Museveni’s rallies across the country.
This however did not go well with opposition party which is popular in the city Kampala and other major towns.
”We resolved not to attend concerts and music shows organized by those musicians. We requested all our supporters in the country not to attend their functions and indeed they heeded,” said Abbas Musoke, one of Kizza Besigye’s campaign team members.
Since elections, all music shows organized by those musicians have flopped. The most recent was organized by Lyn Namubiru in Kampala.
”Most people in Kampala are in the opposition. So when they said they were not to attend concerts by musicians who supported Museveni, they meant it.,’ said Peter Mwanga, a music promoter in Kampala.
Mwanga said that the only solution for those musicians is to apologize to the members of the opposition.
”They should humble themselves and ask for forgiveness if they want people to return to their concerts.”
But Baby Cool recently said they had no regrets supporting Museveni because like any other Ugandan, they are free to support a candidate of their choice.
