Coast region Coordinator, Nelson Marwa on Sunday accused security officials in Msambweni Kwale for sleeping on their job following the murder of three Nyumba Kumi officials on Saturday night by unknown assailants.
“It is sad that the incident happened when we have security officers who are equipped with all required facilities to protect citizens,” said disturbed Marwa when he visited the bereaved families.
Village chairman Mohammed Mwanguze and his colleagues Hassan Mwasanite and Juma Mwanyota were shot dead separately on Saturday night at Bongwe in Diani by unknown people.
It is believed that Somali returnees who have been terrorizing locals in the area are behind the killings although police sources could not confirm it.
He warned that the murder of the three will be followed by massive transfer of senior security officers who have failed to deliver their mandates.
Marwa said it is unfortunate that locals are being murdered when the officers supposed to protect them are behaving like they are on honey moon.
“Kwale County Commissioner Kutswa Olaka, it is time you moved your office to Diani from Kwale town because this is becoming the most sensitive area in terms of criminal incidents. If you delay I will pitch camp here myself,” said Marwa.
He asked locals to cooperate with police by giving information.
“My office is open; if you don’t trust officers in this area come to me,” he said.
Marwa directed Coast Regional Police Commander Julius Wanjohi to organize a peaceful crackdown to ensure the suspects behind the murders are arrested.
Kwale Woman Representative Zainab Chidzuga said police should do their best and arrest the suspects.
“We should not be always told that police are investigating; we want results,” she said.
Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya urged residents to embrace peace and shun acts of violence.
“If these killings are out of family disputes, I would like to urge those who are involved to embrace peaceful means of conflict resolution without shedding blood,” he said.
The three bodies were taken to Msambweni hospital for medical examinations and later returned to their respective families who buried them according to Islam traditions.
This comes hot on heels of the murder of a reformed Somali returnee who was killed three weeks ago in Diani.
