Two people including a police officer died in a road accident at Kiangwaci trading centre along Sagana-Karatina road.
Mwea West OCPD Samuel Saurey said the male officer was traveling on a motorbike from Nairobi to Kiganjo Police Training College in Nyeri.
He said the officer collided with a cyclist near Kiangwaci police post and died on his way to Murang’a Hospital for treatment.
The police boss added that the cyclist died on the spot.
He said the wreckage of the bicycle and motorbike were collected and taken to Mwea Police station while bodies of the deceased were taken to Murang’a Hospital mortuary.
He urged motorists to be cautious during this rainy season since there is fog in the region leading to poor visibility.
He also urged drivers and road users to follow traffic rules on the busy Makutano-Sagana-Karatina road to reduce the number of accidents.
