Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko is looking for a Luhya running mate, it has emerged.
Sonko is eyeing the Nairobi Governor’s position for the 2017 General Elections and is said to be considering every option possible that can win him a place at the top of the tree.
That includes getting a Luhya running mate to capitalize on the numerous number of Luhya people living in the city.
He will also, thanks to the running mate, discredit Kidero on grounds that he run down Mumias Sugar, which is likely to galvanize the Luhya vote in the city.
“ The Luhya running mate will win the Senator votes in plenty because of his background and also plead with them to avoid Kidero because of what he did to Mumias Sugar,” a source close to team Sonko told News24.
Sonko is hoping to displace Kidero but he faces an uphill task thanks to the large numbers of Luhyas and Luos in the city who subscribe to the CORD Coalition which Kidero will run for the seat on.
