Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed has revealed that there is no alternative to the new policy of deregulation of the price of petrol by the federal government.

Mohammed made the disclosure while addressing journalists in Abuja, Monday, Vanguard reports.

He said that the paucity of foreign exchange has made it impossible for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to continue to solely import petrol.

He appealed to the leadership of labour unions and all Nigerians for understanding, as the current hardship would not last long.

News24 had reported that the House of Representatives had earlier invited the Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, over the new premium motor spirit price regime hiked from N86.5 to N145.
