Former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) senior strategist, Ngunjiri Wambugu, has declared his bid to unseat Nyeri Town MP Esther Murugi.
Wambugu said he will contest for the parliamentary seat come 2017 general elections on a Jubilee party.
“I will vie for Nyeri Town MP’s seat in the next elections. The seat is currently held but when time comes I will be in the race,” said Wambugu.
Murugi, who was elected on President Uhuru Kenyatta’s The National Alliance (TNA) party, is serving her second term in parliament.
Speaking at St.Peters ACK Cathedral in Nyeri town during ordination of 12 Canons and one Archdeacon, Wambugu announced that he has been working with the Jubilee government since he left the opposition party.
He asked Christians to pray for the government and the President.
Wambugu, who is also the executive Director of Change Associates Trust, left ODM to Jubilee immediately after 2013 elections and since then has been a major critic of the opposition.
Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria said Wambugu was welcome into the ‘Jubilee Government’s political wing’.
He will battle out for the parliamentary seat with President Uhuru’s political adviser Patrick Ngatia, Businesswoman Lucy Wanjiru and former governor Nderitu Gachagua’s political adviser Duncan Mathenge who have also developed interests.
