The son of the late Zimbabwean former president Canaan Banana has reportedly formed his own political party, a report said on Monday.
According to New Zimbabwe Nathan Banana, 49, said his party, the Freedom Justice Coalition of Zimbabwe (FJCZ), was set to be launched the end of June.
Nathan, who is the third son of the late president, said he was ready to content the general elections in 2018.
Nathan previously worked as a Zimbabwean police officer. He also had a stint at the president’s office.
According to a post on his Facebook page, Nathan said that it was a daunting task joining politics.
He, however, said that after six years working from behind the scenes, he was now ready to set up his own political party.
He disclosed that he had set up party structures across the country and had worked with a number of other political parties.
According to Nyasa Times, Nathan’s father was convicted of sodomy charges in 1998 after a prolonged homosexual relationship with his aides was unveiled.
This, however, was a charge that critics said was politically motivated as President Robert Mugabe feared Banana’s comeback after systematically outwitting him[Banana] in 1987.
Nathan told the Voice of America last year that life at state house was difficult.
He was quoted saying that it took at least two weeks for him and his siblings to be cleared by security to visit friends and engage in various social activities.
