Man In Court For Allegedly Killing Girlfriend On Free State Farm

The case against a man who allegedly killed his girlfriend on a farm near Smithfield was postponed in the town’s magistrate’s court on Thursday, Free State police said.

The case was postponed until May 5 to allow for further investigation, said Sergeant Yanga Ngcukana.

Petrus Lempetje, 28, allegedly beat the 32-year-old woman to death on the farm, Haasfontein, using an iron rod and a wooden pole.

When police arrived on the scene of the murder on Tuesday, they found her 2-year-old son crying next to her body. She was declared dead on the scene. The toddler was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

Lempetje was arrested while walking back to his home. He shoes and trousers were allegedly bloodstained.
