Kisumu Senator, Anyang’ Nyong’o has actually claimed demonstrations versus the Independent Electoral and also Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners will certainly take place up until they leave workplace.
Speaking in an interview in Nairobi on Monday, Nyong’o said the current IEBC is corruption ridden and cannot be trusted to conduct the next general elections.
“IEBC commissioners ate chicken, but we ate teargas. This is just the beginning of things to come. Unless they go, they will see more of this, not just in Nairobi, but all over the country.
“We want the 2017 elections to be free and fair where the victors will celebrate while the losers will accept the results as legitimate,” Nyong’o said.
He said the opposition will not rest until the commissioners are ousted.
“Our demonstrations for multi-party democracy in 1990s and 80s were day in day out; we were even so jail but finally we succeeded. Unless these commissioners go home, you are going to see more and more demonstrations, finally they will go home,” the senator said.
His sentiments came hours after IEBC said it was ready to meet with the opposition to iron out their election concerns.
“We are ready to discuss any concerns on elections with all political players. CORD is our client. They should make it possible to engage. We call on all our stakeholders to engage us in a structured manner and with respect to the law.
“The commissioners were appointed through a legal process and their removal from office is also governed by the same legal process,” IEBC said in response to Cord’s attempts to storm its offices to force the commissioners out of office.
