Lingering issues with power supply across the country may continue till May, as major repairs to the vandalised Forcados terminal will only be completed next month.
According to a Punch report, the revelation was announced during a visit to the terminal made by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.
Osinbajo has disclosed that once repairs have been concluded, a permanent pipeline security force will be established in order to curtail vandalism and protect pipelines in key areas across Nigeria.
Equipped with sophisticated weapons, the force will monitor activity and ensure that security is maintained where the country’s gas and oil supply is concerned.
Osinbajo bemoaned the sporadic power supply currently being experienced by citizens, describing it as a “real problem”.
“I came here to see for myself and underscore the great implication for the nation’s economy. Many people don’t even know that power supply is hampered by what is going on here,” he said.
The Vice-President has since urged all concerned to have the pipeline repaired as soon as possible, saying that the project is due to be concluded in May, according to a repair plan presented to him by Shell.
