University Of Nairobi Suspends Mike Jacobs And 61 Others Over Strike

The University of Nairobi has suspended 62 students following unrest in the premier learning institution.

Among those sent home is Mike Jacobs, a student leader who was floored by the controversial SONU chairman, Babu Owino.

Babu Owino was declared the university students organization chairman after hotly contested elections that were marred with allegations of rigging.

Students aligned to Jacobs who got 3, 000 votes against Owino’s 18, 000 took to the streets in protest and destroyed university property.

In a paid advertisement in major dailies Tuesday, the university Vice Chancellor Peter Mbithi asked the affected students to go and pick their suspension letters

“The university has initiated disciplinary process against the 62 students for participating in unrest and destruction of public property, ” reads the advertisement.

“They should pick up their suspension letters from the Registrar, students affairs, latest by Friday, April 15, 2016, ” adds the advertisement signed by Prof Mbithi
