The International Criminal Court ICC has dropped the case against DP William Ruto and journalist Joshua Sang. Why?
The court stated Tuesday that there was no case to answer for the DP and Sang and in the end castigated Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda for not having enough in her tank to ensure the two were charged for their alleged misconduct.
The two had been in court to answer to charges of Crimes Against Humanity but in the end, the prosecution has failed to deliver the goods.
The ICC trial judges gave a short reason for the death of the cases.
” Troubling incidences of witness interference and intolerable political meddling meant that there was no case to answer”,the judges provided as their inter alia reason for mistrial.
They stated that the DP and Sang could not be proved guilty since the witnesses in the case were found to have been either tampered with or unreliable.
They also blamed the political process instituted by Kenya and the African Union as having derailed the cases.
The withdrawal will leave the ICC in a precarious position, with African nations still insisting that they want out of the court.
