At least two people were burnt to death when an inferno razed no fewer than 100 makeshift structures in the Lekki area of Lagos state on Tuesday,Punch reports.

The two people, identified only as Kemi and Azeez, were said to have been asleep when the incident happened.

They were chocked by smoke.

Property worth millions of naira was destroyed in the fire.

“The fire started a few minutes to 03:00. We tried our best to put it out, but we couldn’t. When we saw the way the fire was spreading, we started salvaging our property. The intervention of the fire service, however, minimised the damage,” one of the residents was quoted as saying.

The cause of the fire remained unknown.
