The All Progressives Congress (APC) party in Rivers state has demanded the cancellation of elections that were held over the weekend in eight local government areas.
According to Punch, the state APC chairperson, Davies Ikanya, said this while addressing journalists on Monday.
“There were unlawful interferences by Governor Nyesom Wike, inadequate security, irregular and untrained ad hoc staff in some places among other very serious issues. These problems were also corroborated by the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state,” Ikanya was quoted as saying.
He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairperson and his entire management to cancel the entire Rivers State rerun, saying no result would be credible.
This came after reports on Monday indicated that President Muhammadu Buhari had remained mum on the issues relating to the Rivers state elections.
Buhari, who addressed the National Economic Forum retreat in Abuja, chose to discuss the country’s economic issues and ignored the crisis in Rivers state.
