Nigeria: Fayose Questions Buhari’s Priorities Amid Benue Crisis

Ekiti Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has questioned President Muhammadu Buhari’s prioritising the alleged plans to rig the re-run elections in Rivers State ahead instead of the tragic crisis in Benue State.

Coinciding with the violence in Rivers ahead of polls, it has been reported Fulani herdsmen had initiated a reign of terror in Benue, where some 400 people have reported dead.

Fayose denounced the violence but questioned Buhari’s handling of the crises.

“Only a president with ulterior political motives will elevate political violence above the kind of genocide carried out by Fulani herdsmen in Benue State,” said Fayose.

“Having failed in the court to steal the States from the PDP, Buhari and his APC (All Progressives Congress) want to use violence and intimidation,” added Fayose.

“But they should know that even if they relocate Aso Rock Presidential Villa and the APC National Secretariat to Rivers State on Saturday, they will be roundly defeated.”

Fayose claimed Buhari’s swift reaction to the recent political violence in Rivers was part of the APC plot to rig the re-run elections slated for Saturday.

“Any attempt to clampdown on members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State under the guise of stemming the tide of political violence in the state will be counter-productive.”

Fayose said if Buhari was serious about dealing with perpetrators of violence, he should first deal with the crisis in Benue where Fulani herdsmen reportedly owned up to murdering residents.

“The president must first deal decisively with those who confessed to have killed over 400 Nigerians, including pregnant women and children to revenge alleged killing of cows before he can be taken seriously on his decision to deal decisively with all sponsors of violence in Rivers State.”
