1350 Litres Of Illegal Brews, Four Manufacturers Netted

Kirinyaga police officers have netted 1350 litres of illegal brews during a crackdown exercise in the County.

Kirinyaga Central OCPD, Peter Monari said four people suspected to be manufacturers of illicit brews have also been arrested at Ngomongo village.

He said police officers are also going for individuals supplying molasses which is used in the preparation of brews.

Monari said the government gazetted new requirements on the supply of molasses trade, and those still selling the product have to comply with the new rules.

“The suppliers have been retailing the commodity claiming it was for animal consumption only for them to sell the same to illegal brewers,” said Monari.

He said the government has issued firm instructions that molasses meant for animals should not be used for any other purpose, other than the original intention.

Monari divulged that police have been instructed to intensify the search for illegal brewers and the hideouts for producers of the second generation brews.
