The Council of Governors (CoG) chair, Peter Munya has called for the reinstatement of police officers attached to the Mombasa and Kilifi governors, Ali Hassan Joho and Amason Jeffa Kingi with immediate effect.
The Mombasa regional coordinator, Nelson Marwa recalled the County bosses’ security on Thursday, saying they were involved in the violence witnessed in Malindi during the Monday by-election where a woman was stripped and two chiefs beaten up.
The governors condemned the withdrawal of Joho and Kingi’s bodyguards, Citizen TV reports, saying it is in bad faith and abuse of power.
Kenyans on Twitter have also faulted Marwa for working with the Jubilee government to frustrate opposition.
Robert Alai, a blogger said: “Nelson Marwa is going to worsen radicalization at the coast. When lawful ways of political protests fail, people will use unlawful ways.”
Consumer Federation of Kenya posted: “#EqualizationFundNextScamBecause we praise Nelson Marwa for all the wrong reasons. Curtailing of bill of rights in clamping the opposition?”
