Nigeria: Saraki Goes On Trial

The trial of  Senate President, Bukola Abubakar Saraki, over alleged false declaration of assets will commence on Friday before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT ) in Abuja.

Saraki is facing a 13-count charge of false assets declaration filed against him at Tribunal by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

The CCB had alleged that Saraki made false claims in the four assets declarations forms he submitted on his assumption and exit from office as governor of Kwara State between 2003 and 2011.

Saraki was in the 13 counts charge alleged to have corruptly acquired many properties while in office as governor .

He had futilely tried to get the Tribunal to abandon the trial, arguing that it was not empowered to try criminal cases.
