The country was left reeling on Sunday when news broke of the sudden and untimely death of State Labour Minister James Ocholi and his family in a fatal auto crash.
Regarded as a sound lawyer and a beloved politician, Ocholi passed as the supposed result of a burst tyre, barely eight months before his 59th birthday, with the crash having taken the lives of his youngest son and wife in the process, Naij has reported.
Family members of the late SAN have expressed suspicions of foul play surrounding the incident, saying that the manner of the crash has raised several questions.
It has come to light that one of the drivers of the vehicle that Ocholi was being transported in had taken pictures of the wreck, along with the deceased, and posted them on social media. Many have questioned the validity of this development, given that the driver in question was said to have been injured during the accident.
Senator Chris Ngige has also spoken out on the incident, calling on the acting Permanent Secretary within the Labour Ministry to conduct an investigation into the recruitment process that led to the driver in question becoming a member of Ocholi’s staff.
Relatives of the deceased have alerted authorities to further irregularities in the crash, pointing out that the vehicle door that the late Minister had entered the car through was not properly locked, leading to him being flung from the vehicle, while his body was mangled beyond recognition.
While the Federal Executive Council (FEC) is set to accord a special tribute to the deceased on Wednesday, the ever-looming question of who may have caused James Ocholi’s death remains on the minds of many.
